Biography
Paul Nijs (b. 1998) is a percussionist and composer from Weert, The Netherlands.
From a young age, Paul has had a passion for music, especially percussion. As an active solo performer, he achieved multiple successes in international competitions, including the Dutch Championships, the prestigious Princess Christina Competition and the World Music Contest. He performed many concerts on stages in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and China. In his career, he took part in masterclasses, among others, by Lennard Nijs, Martin Grubinger, Pedro Carneiro, Nanae Mimura, Fumito Nunoya and Nebojša Jovan Živković.
In 2014 he performed a concert with the famous performing artist Herman van Veen and gave a solo concert during the Prinsjesbal, on the occasion of Prinsjesdag. In addition, Paul was one of the percussionists of the Orkest van Nederland. The year was concluded with a concert tour to Shanghai, China, where Paul gave several concerts as a soloist with the St.-Joseph Wind Orchestra.
Paul worked together with people such as Wibi Soerjadi, Joost Vrouenraets, Martijn Krabbé, Dominic Seldis and others. He gained orchestral experience under the baton of Jan Willem de Vriend, Alex Schillings, Jan Cober, Jussi Jaatinen and Björn Bus.

He has also cooperated with the TROMP Percussion Competition, the Grachtenfestival Amsterdam, the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, the Alphons Wintersprijs, Brassband Limburg, theatre performance i Am, the Radio 4 program Podium op Zaterdag with Wouter Pleijsier and the Bospop music festival.
In 2017, Paul gave his Final Percussion Concert, where he performed the Dutch premiere of the new marimba work Homo Balcanicus by composer Nebojša Jovan Živković. Paul was awarded an overall 10 and was praised for his excellent percussion skills and innovative repertoire choice.
After graduating from secondary school, Paul moved to England to study chiropractic at the AECC University College in Bournemouth. Because of his musical background, he wants to commit himself to what chiropractic can mean for professional musicians and other performance artists after graduating.

Ambassadeur van het Prinses Christina Concours

Paul Nijs slaagt cum laude na openbaar D-examen slagwerk
Op 28 juni vond het Final Percussion Concert van slagwerker Paul Nijs plaats in de concertzaal van het RICK Weert. Hierin legde hij zijn openbaar D-examen af.
